Month: April 2016

May 2016 Budget

This month is going to be a very tough month. May is a big month. May always seems to be the turning point of my year. By May, I already have a feel for what the year is going to be like and May also determines how the rest of the year will be like. This month, for the first time, I have my budget ready on time.

May 2016 Budget

1 Namibian Dollar (NAD) = 0.069 US Dollar (USD) as at 25-04-2016

We are going to a wedding at the coast. Traveling expenses, accommodation expenses and entertainment expenses go up. I’ve budgeted $750 for our trip to the beach which is this coming weekend.

May means the end of the English Premier League season (and most European football leagues). I made a couple of bets with some friends and I need to account for the losses I could potentially take on. I know I should have made a provision for this earlier this year, but it really looked like I wasn’t going to lose the wager. Lesson learned.

It’s my wife’s birthday this month, so I need to budget for that as well. Even though I should actually pay for her gifts with the next paycheck, but I get that paycheck a day before her birthday. I need more time to prepare for her birthday. So my savings fund is going to take a big hit this month. Hopefully I can refill it over the coming months.

My budget for other expenses is really tight this month. A lot of the expenses like food, entertainment, personal and mobile expenses are lower than their average monthly actual in the first quarter of the year. I have no choice but to keep it tight this month because I am already taking $1200 from my saving just to make it through this month.

I expect to come into some cash later this year, so even though my savings is going to plummet, lowering my net worth, it will pick up later this year. Also, my wife and I’ve been saving for a trip to Durban, South Africa with her family, but it seems the trip might be called off. We have an extra fund of cash for any emergencies now. Maybe we might decide to go on holiday after all with that money, but I like knowing there is extra cash if s*** hits the fan.

Well, this should be an interesting month, not only with regard to money. This month marks the end of the football season, the start of my school exams and the end of a financial year at work. I hope I can survive May.

Until next time. Thanks for reading.

Still surviving

Holding on

I am not dead from being overworked yet. I’m still in the trenches but its not as bad as previously thought.

I just got a couple of tests back and the results look good. I might get through this semester without failing any subjects.

I also wrote a few tests this past week and it wasn’t that bad. I might just pass all of them and I also submitted a couple assignments that I feel very confident about.

Work still sucks though. Last week I had possibly the worst week I’ve ever had at a work place and this week I’m drowning in work even though I’ve been working as hard as I can to get things done, more things just get added to the list.

My finances look good even though I couldn’t give an update on March and Q1 of 2016 yet. My wife is even drawing up excel spreadsheet budgets now even though she was opposed to the idea at the beginning of our marriage.

I’m also looking forward to the weekend. I’m having my friends over. They haven’t been over at my place since I got married. Gonna have to entertain them and show them there is nothing to be afraid of at my place, they are always welcome to come visit.

Well, that’s me for now. I hope the next two weeks can only get better.

Until next time. Thanks for reading.

System Overload

Frustrated Cartoon

It’s been a minute since I posted anything on my blog and its been a minute since I read any other blog posts. Its feels like I’m going to explode at any second because of all the things I have to do or that requires my attention.

I’ve been on holiday for the past week and you’d think I would’ve had time to attend to the small things but not even on holiday do I get a break. I was planning to maybe get my learners permit this week. I didn’t have time to do that either.

As soon as I got to my parents home (that’s where my wife and I decided to go for our week vacay) my dad told me I needed to help him set up a PC at their office, fix his laptop and have a look at their new business plan and make the necessary changes required.

My wife and I had to also drive around looking for places to stay for her mother’s brothers and sisters when we all come down for a wedding in about a month’s time.

Its the last day of our holiday and I don’t even feel like I got any rest. I had to work so hard for 3 days before our vacation began because I couldn’t leave any work unattended. Now that I got here I had to continue working and when I get back, there is lots of work waiting for me.

If there is one thing that I will remember about 2016, is the sheer amount of work I had to do. I never felt this busy in my life, ever!

Only 2 more months before this school semester ends. When I start the new semester I’m going to register less classes, but that will be determined by my average mark I get for this semester. If I manage to achieve a 60 percent average, I won’t drop any subjects because clearly I can juggle it all at once. If I get between 55 and 59 percent, I will drop one subject and if I get less than that, I will drop two subjects.

This week coming week is going to be a crazy week. I have 3 assignments to complete, 1 test to write and 2 tests to study for the following week. If I make it to the end of the week in one piece I will be a very happy man.

Until next time. Thanks for reading.
